About
Academy Singers is a chamber choir offering Blue Mountains residents and visitors regular concerts of well-loved choral repertoire, both sacred and secular. We are a four-part chamber choir offering Blue Mountains residents and visitors regular performances of choral music, a cappella or accompanied by local professional musicians. We perform both sacred and secular music in a wide range of styles, from early music to gospel and Broadway, and to the best contemporary composers, including works by Australian composers.
Collaborations with Penrith City Choir, Penrith Symphony Orchestra and Warrimoo Chorale enable us to perform larger scale works at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, and we host annual participatory events for all interested singers, such as Vocal Workshops and Singing Days. In addition to our regular concerts, we have sung for Church services such as Evensong, Christmas and Easter services, as well as Yulefest celebrations and Community Festivals. We act as mentors to the Blue Mountains Youth Choir.
Academy Singers was established in 1996 by distinguished musician and composer Gavin Tipping, then Head of Music at Blue Mountains Grammar School and founder of the Blue Mountains Grammar Music Academy, the inspiration for the choice of our name. Since December 2011, renowned Australian composer, conductor and arranger Paul Terracini has directed the choir.
